About
The Napanee Golf and Country Club (est. 1897), has been welcoming and challenging golfers in parts of three centuries. The most famous golfer to have played the course is Sam Snead, who played two rounds here in August of 1959.
Sam Snead shot a record-setting 63 in his second round. A copy of his scorecard is displayed in the pro shop. Josh Whalen currently holds the course record, (62), set on September 29, 2017.
Set on over 70 undulating acres, the ‘nine hole’ course has been strategically designed to play as a full eighteen. Forward and back tee boxes, separation of tee boxes, split fairways, and ten greens are combined to change hole lengths, landing zones, and the approach angles for the front and back ‘nines.
To the modern golfer, Napanee’s 5877 yards for 18 holes (par 70), may appear short , but there is a reason why Sam Snead’s record stood for over fifty-five years; elevation changes, undulating fairways, majestic trees and fast, well-maintained, greens combine to make this course play longer than the posted distance. Average and novice golfers are not punished by the course’s length, but low handicap golfers must bring their “A”game in order to score well.
