Ponoka Community Golf Club

(We used to be “Alberta’s best-kept secret” but the word got out!) That’s what happens when you try to keep a charming, excellent golf course a secret. Everyone finds out – even Golf Digest, who called us one of its recommended “Place to Play” courses.

Located in the scenic Battle River valley, the course offers a mix of parkland and rolling links-style holes which, after your first visit, will leave you wanting more. You’ll find our staggered tee system favorable for your handicap. Ponoka is a decent challenge for all golfers — novice to advanced — which is why it’s host to many provincial amateur and professional events. Click here to view a flyover of the course!

The Ponoka Community Golf Club is the result of hard working residents who possessed a love for the game of golf. Ponoka was established in 1929 — just six holes — by a group of doctors from the adjacent hospital. In 1936, it was expanded to nine holes. In 1987, famed golf architect Bill Robinson oversaw the addition of nine new holes as well as the renovation of the existing nine. Architect Robert Kains has been entrusted to oversee and map out our changes and tweaking since 2000.

Today, our 6,700 yards (from the back tees) course is short by today’s standards, but features challenging, undulating greens. In fact, Ponoka will challenge the best players with a mix of immaculate tree-lined fairways and rolling links-style holes.

Conveniently located in Central Alberta on the Highway 2 corridor between Edmonton and Calgary, we make for a great day away, but not so far you’ll need overnight accommodations.
